You leave the tent. You watch the river. The wind brushes the pine needles. You step between the broken glass. A deer disappears among the trees.

I had never seen a performance of Indian classical music before this past Sunday. I encourage everyone to look for something nearby and attend. For me, it was the ATMA Ensemble at the Art of Living Center in L.A.

I just saw Werner Herzog's "Cave of Forgotten Dreams" in 3D and IMAX. I knew it by reputation and it was even better than I expected. It showed at a commercial multiplex, and there were over 20 minutes of extended previews for what struck me as belligerently crass Hollywood nonsense.

There's a small group of people who name "Holland" as the best post-Smile Beach Boys record, and I'm not one of them. But of the records where Brian was really not part of the process, it's the best put-together, and it's the best work Carl and Mike Love ever did as writers on their own account.

The best thing you can do in light of the Ellison takeover of Warner Brothers invest your time, energy, and money in supporting independent creators and independent distribution networks and independent venues. It is absolutely crucial to make independence a viable option.

My favorite institution is the public library, because it allows me to try out a book to see how it fits, and in the process I expand my understanding of what I like and as a result who I am. As an example, Dolores Hitchens' Rachel Murdock books.

I'm going to play in a D&D one-shot this Sunday, the first time in several years. Last night I dreamed I played a bard, which I've never played and don't really understand. I studied my character sheet and the Player's Handbook at length and my confusion about how to play that class grew as I read.
