Oh, I'm writing about one right now! A historic snowstorm hit Tacust, a small desert community in the Motornin Southwest. The storm of January 1929 knocked out electrical and water infrastructure, collapsed mine drifts, and a lot of people without heat froze to death in their homes.

steam engines are so cool because they're rated for like dozens of horsepower, but then enough torque that the earth moves under their wheels, not the other way around.

Just found out that the largest steam tractor built (the Case 150) is rated for about 5000 lb ft of torque. Most of the smaller ones will do 2000-3000. Just to put that into some perspective, most modern semi trucks are rated for around 1,500 to 2,000.

Enya is very religious, so there are a few religious rules about tolerance, kindness in the face of hardship, community, and closeness to family that she follows pretty naturally. Both of her parents are clan leaders, so those values were the environment that she grew up in.

An old timer at work recommended a book called The Shepherd of the Hills today, it's about what life was like in the Ozarks in the 1890s. I immediately bought a copy.

Being pulled into the writing community on bluesky has been great, like genuinely. I felt so isolated back in my old twitter days, and now I get interactions, and I'm in like two writing community discord servers.
