I’ve bought my first Whisky of the year 😳 Of course it’s the Glen Scotia 2026 Festival release. Looks like it’s going to be £65 direct from Scotia’s website but MoM have it available cheaper.

I was hoping I would get a response from Living Souls about their 48 Year Old Carsebridge. But it’s radio silence. I was hoping to land a vintage 76 whisky for my 50th this June. Perhaps this could be from 76, retailers can’t confirm, & the brand themselves ignore direct enquiries & social posts.

The Netherfield: A Rising Star in Independent Bottling

Rant: If someone asks a question on a whisky brands social media post & they don’t reply, that is one thing. But when they don’t respond to a direct email, then they do not deserve my custom. I understand some socials aren’t monitored, but email? As a relatively new biz in the current climate! Mad!

I believe I’ve had this bottle 5 years & it’s still going, mainly because I’m not paying £130 for a new one. £70 was still too much when I bought it. BUT we are returning to the Inverness area again later in the year. So who knows 😉🤷🏻♂️ Slainte 🥃

Finish It’s spicy with the aforementioned chilli & pepper, there is lingering lemon creams with a bitter dark chocolate. I didn’t find adding water made much change.

A second sip delivers fruit but nothing specific dominates as the palate is drawn towards pepper and chilli which bring a lovely spicy heat The smoke builds giving thoughts of a beach BBQ with drips of lemon juice hitting hot coals

Palate The sweet arrives first then a decent blast of smoke. Once past the smoke it’s maritime sensation of salt, smoked fish & seaweed bringing in the savoury element alcohol just about appears with a little nip reminding you it’s 46%

Peat Chimney is a Scotch whisky that combines a small batch selection of peaty Islay, Highland, Island and lighter Speyside single malts to create a hand-crafted whisky named for its mellow balance of sweet peat smoke, maritime character and subtle citrus flavours.

This third iteration of the legendary Velvet Fig, which was matured exclusively in six first-fill Sherry casks filled in 2012, underwent a five-month marrying period in Sherry-seasoned oak, which is said to have imparted a richer, more velvety flavour profile.
