At some point in my early education, I learned to classify claims as value, fact, or policy claims. For years, decades even, I have been searching for the source of that particular classification scheme. Just learned that it comes from the Toulmin method.

Have seen many variations of this & broadly agree—but the part that struck me in the moment wasn’t “this is a microcosm for how America sucks” — it was “this is a microcosm for trying to behave democratically & respectfully of one another in a complex, evolving situation with things we can't know.”

If you are not in the business of negotiating against yourself, this set of preferences makes a lot of sense.

I’m a bit surprised that Wikipedia doesn’t have a List of People who have Received More than One Pardon, though it might just be the two that Trump has done. Closest I can come up with is Patty Hearst with a commutation (Carter) and a Pardon (Clinton).
