Day 16. I'd never heard of ghost craters—craters filled in with lava that make a kind of geological palimpsest—until @katiedozier.bsky.social's haiku yesterday. That was fun to play with.

Day 10 of the crown … work and life have been very tiring this week, but it feels good to sneak in a poem every other day. Should try this writing thing more often.

Day 2 of our new National Poetry Month haibun crown. This was @katiedozier.bsky.social's ku to kick it off: erasure poem I black out old windows So I use those words within my haibun. I didn't want to start out a fun project on a downer, but I'm in a mood, so it's true to the moment.

There have been 43,635 poems submitted to the Ekphrastic Challenge in its 10 years. That's over 43,635 hours of focused human creative energy that wouldn't exist without this project. That's neat to think about.

Issue 89 of Rattle will feature "Late Bloomers"—those who started publishing poems after age 50. It's an interesting, inspiring, and often-overlooked demographic. That's the best label I can think of, but I feel like there might be a better word. Any suggestions?

Read the 1991 Best American Poetry last night, edited by Mark Strand. Half the poems were from Antaeus, which I'd never heard of. A third mention snow. And most would have been on the fence for including in Rattle. We don't notice, but everything just gets better every year.

AI is already disrupting literature. What does it mean for the future of poetry? That was the topic of this week's episode of The Poetry Space_. Katie tries to see a silver lining, but I'm pessimistic about an impending interest collapse. Soon every poem will feel like Schrodinger's Cat.
