Yup, Bates and Grill being proven high major shooters who’ve earned a degree of trust from the coaching staff felt like it could’ve been an issue going into the year.

For freshmen, Rakease Passmore was a guy I liked quite a bit. Hard to imagine he sees the floor much this year at all given the depth at Kansas.

For up-transfers, Jacob Crews at Missouri. Feels like a dude you could’ve dropped onto 100s of other teams and would’ve had a big role. Instead, he’s stuck on the bench. Even if he stayed put, would’ve been a PIT lock. Now, very doubtful.

There’s nothing like a good early-mid 2nd round flyer on a defensive wing who just needs to figure out how to shoot. Striking gold on them is such a game changer.

I still have some EJ Liddell stock, he’s a well-rounded forward on a two-way contract who will be spending time down there. Otherwise, there’s no one I’m particularly bullish on down there currently.

Depends on the skill and the value of it relative to position. Like Josh Giddey has some really cool playmaking talent, but his weaknesses positionally hinder his value in a major way. But generally, you’ve got to be pretty special at something as a prospect if you’re going to stick.

I love me a productive wing with great physical tools and feel that just needs to shoot a little better in the second round. IE: Herb Jones, Toumani Camara.

Selfishly, because I enjoy watching him play, I hope Labaron Philon goes wild all season. I think Nolan Traore is very much in danger of falling out.

I actually made that high end comp in my column about him. Similar to Sengun, though, it is imperative that he continues to maximize what he has athletically while continuing to refine his technique in ball screen coverages. www.noceilingsnba.com/p/the-majest...

Asa Newell springs to mind immediately, even if his three ball hasn’t fallen consistently in college yet. Liam NcNeeley might not have quite the upside, but he’s definitely going to provide spacing.

This truth is the entire reason I started writing about basketball in the first place. The only thing we know for sure is that we in fact do NOT know what is going to happen. We are using imperfect tools, acknowledging that uncertainty is the biggest step towards quality evaluation imho

Underrated: Staying loose. I’ve missed on/over ranked players because I clung too much to my initial impression of them as opposed to how the produced and progressed. Avoiding anchoring bias, continuing to take in more data points, and adjusting from there has generally led to better results for me.

Overrated, in my opinion: Having a firm, rigid process with regard to ranking players. There are outliers every year, and I think to not make a few strategic gambles for better potential value, even at greater risk, is a necessity.
