Started off the year reading Your Place in the Universe by Jason Chin. It was a reread with my 8-year-old. The 11-year-old also read it on his own. This one really stretched our minds and lead to some interesting conversations.

Books don't tell readers who they personally are or who they are supposed to be. They do show readers a variety of characters. Implicit in that is this: "Here are some ways of being." Kids books aren't altering your kid to be someone new. They are simply showing them parts of humanity.

Children's librarian here. It upsets me when parents come in insisting on kids reading a "real" book. These kids are enjoying reading, choosing. That should be encouraged. Obviously, I explain the benefits of GNs. BTW, the top 10 kids books checked out in my library system for '25 were all GNs.
