The new-ish 48th St parking protected bike lane, looking very fine, at Larchwood. I like the planters, they fit with West Philly. The Prius had a bumper sticker on it that said "seal life is real life"

I deeply enjoyed riding the 3rd St bike lane this morning. Freshly striped from South to Market, with flexposts for the first half. Paint ain't protection, but it's a big step forward. Thanks to all those who advocated for this including

Three years ago,
@peterskim.org
led a WNR called "Streets Wide Enough for a Bike Lane" that included this precise stretch of 3rd Street... and now it's a bike lane! Huzzah, huzzah! Thanks to everyone who made this improvement reality.

Lately I've been paying cash for more purchases. I like it. It's better for the business (no credit card fee), better for the workers (cash tips). I think it's also more sociable. I'm pretty sure the clerk and I are more likely to make eye contact, perhaps exchange an expression when I pay cash.

New bike lane, freshly striped: Fairmount from Front (shown) to 5th. Buffered, unprotected. Still, Fairmount now has a bike lane across most of the city (only 5th to Broad has no lane, but those blocks are pretty mellow), improving it as an east-to-west bike route

I'm trying to get my dad's
#pentaxK1000
back in use and in working order. He took our childhood photos with this camera, and I learned how to shoot with it in my 20s. But it's been a minute (two decades), so I decided to refresh my memory with this tutorial

Cheap and simple daylighting in Philadelphia. Also a nice way to add some greenery to city streets. Come on, New York, you can do this too.
