Did you know, the MG Motor Company started in the garages that now form part of New College? On Saturday, a newly commissioned sculpture by British artist Paul Day was unveiled to commemorate the historic significance of the now Kimber Wing and captures the essence of the nascent MG cars.

Over the weekend, a staff team took on the National Three Peaks Challenge, raising money for Alzheimer’s Society and Motor Neuron Disease Association. Despite snow, traffic and tractors, Danny achieved the unthinkable finishing within 24hrs! An amazing achievement, with the rest of us following on.

The 2nd largest megatsunami ever recorded took place in Aug 2025 in an Alaskan Fjord. New College’s Thomas Monahan was part of the team that analysed seismic data to identify the signal of the wave and discovered a series of long-lived oscillations that reverberated through the fjord

This May marks the centenary of the General Strike of 1926. Michael Stansfield, New College’s Archivist, put on an exhibition of letters, images, and documents relating to the students who, at the request of the government, were employed in place of striking workers.

Amphiform, a deep tech company founded by New College masters student Grisha Sheldunov, has closed a $5.5M pre-seed round. By building a new generation of nano-catalyst energy materials, it aims to solve energy bottlenecks for data centres, space and defence.

Today is Ascension Day… which means there’ll be sparklers, music and a procession in New College later this evening 🕯️🎶🚶Ascension Day is also celebrated with the Beating of the Bounds, a 1000 year old tradition, where residents walk the boundaries of their parish or town

‘On Colneis Road’ - an exhibition by Kit Rush and Hattie Hone From pommel horse to badges to childhood hymns projected onto the walls of the Warden’s stables, the exhibition brought seemingly ordinary objects into a kind of familiar cohesion in a memorable addition to New College’s Arts Week.
