Not all oceanic flights are ETOPS. On this route we were always within an hour of a suitable alternate airport. ETOPS or not it’s always good to have a backup plan, especially over oceans and remote areas. As we made our way west we kept track of the conditions at the closest airports. #avgeek

I remember the first Gulf War, so it seems really odd that people are now re-enacting it. Some of the British soldiers were actual veterans of the war. Pretty sure the Iraqi tank crew were just playing a part though.
