just realised that doom is resi before resi tank controls, movement is awkward making it hard to avoid damage, so resources are important, backtracking forces u to engage multiple times. i think if a dev wants to iterate on doom they may need to think survival horror instead of fps or twinstick

thinking of ways to translate the autoscroller snowballing dynamic of shmups into 3d action games. epoch had enemies teleporting to chase but i feel like theres a more elegant solution. its harder for actors to navigate 3d space so they tend to have more static and deterministic level design
