The problem with the simulation below is that a team that is good enough to generate 2.5 xG/game is also (usually) good enough to keep opposition to less than 1.5 xG/game and often to less than 1.0 xG/game. And scoring more also means you are less likely to draw a lot of games and draws are killers.
