Today marks the start of one of the highlights of the year. 10-12 friends meeting up for a weekend full of gaming, and this is my contribution of games. This event is also the main source of inspiration for the game i'm currently designing. 🎲✂️ #boardgames

🎲✂️ After the digital playtest in screentop, a friend commented on how far I had come since that initial pen-and-paper concept I showed some years ago. I had almost forgotten about it. Spiritually it's the same game idea, but that initial concept used a completely different action economy....

🎲✂️ This weekend I did the first playtest of my screentop prototype with some of my closest friends. The teach was a bit rough, and they also had to learn their ways around screentop, but overall it went well...

🎲✂️ Since about a month back I'm on the @unpub.bsky.social mentorship program as a mentee. This has given me the push I needed to get started on my game idea and I'm now approaching something that can be taken to initial playtesting with a screentop.gg implementation.

Returned to a classic in Race for the Galaxy. If you're easily distracted, this game is rough. Each card drawn is situationally really good. But at the same time it's also one credit towards paying for another card. So, do you keep it until you can play it, or use it as payment now...? #boardgames

Another win against Contrarius in Concordia Solitaria on the Corsica map. It seems unavoidable that he builds basically everywhere. Getting enough Saturnus, Jupiter, Mercurius cards and the Weaver and/or Vintner seems like a must, but maybe I should try another strategy just to see... #boardgames

Yesterday we concluded my second Blighted Reach campaign. I had a solid power lead after the two first chapters in act III, but I totally underestimated how quickly the Conspirator C fate would complete his objective and win the game after the third chapter. #arcsgame #blightedreach @leder.games

Played the medium bot from Pax Illuminaten, which uses 'plans' (reveal/follow top card in deck) making it slightly less predictable than the easy bot. Still, going straight towards the bot's location to get in its way seems to be a winning strategy. #paxilluminaten @iongamedesign.com #boardgames

A good mix of online and tabled plays this January. Arcs - The Blighted Reach was the highlight. Sea Salt & Paper and Duel for Middle-Earth are hits with the family. Pax Pamir is in constant rotation on BGA. Fromage is a new favorite. #boardgames

So, that city planning game mentioned some posts back. That was just one of several themes I've played around with. I keep getting stuck on fully connecting the theme to the mechanics. I'm considering an abstract design instead, just to get moving through the prototyping stage.

Tonight was Arcs night. Base game + Leaders & Lore. Finished dead last after going all in on two ambitions I ultimately failed to score (tied for second). One new player, second time for two of the others. Tenth game for me. 4 hours including teach ending after 5th chapter. #boardgames #gamenight

In "City Plans" you plan districts you later construct to gain influence in a collaboratively built city. Influence is used to further guide the development of the city in areas like industry, culture and science. Whoever best matches their prestige with the city profile as the game concludes, wins.

Games are such an odd medium. They're A mix of so much creativity. Similar to movies, an engaging 60-120 minutes, but requires cognitive and physical activity. Not everyone finds that "relaxing" in our ever stressful world. Accessibility, approachability, easy-ness, brings more people into the fun.

It likely won't last long, but for now I'm #1 in Pax Pamir 2nd ed on BGA Arena season 20, and for that I am mighty proud! :) #boardgames #bga #paxpamir

Verdant by @flatoutgames.bsky.social is visually more appealing than Cascadia, but the solo mode unfortunately doesn't run quite as smoothly. It's not cumbersome by any means, but it distracts a little bit from the otherwise straight forward gameplay.

Pax Pamir, Second Edition by @colewehrle.bsky.social from @wehrlegig.games - it's one of my favorite games which you'll find me playing regularly over on BGA. Sadly I don't get it physically to the table as often as I like, which is a shame given its looks!
