the nonspecific politics-of-violence angle worked beautifully in Civil War (underrated, really excellent). that same lack of specificity into the Iraq War works a lot less, particularly from an American perspective. i know that isn’t the goal of the film, but it does nag at you.

oh dangg, this one’s really close to Certified Banger status! a lot of familiar stuff (summer camp, scary story at the fire, spooky dreams) but it works hard to differentiate itself and give everyone boosts of personality. BIG shame about the exposition dump at the end though :(

this started out sort of promising, actually — some very rough amateurish acting & cheap production aside. but then the twist hits and every bit of air deflates from it. by the time the ending rolls it feels more like a CW episode [derogatory] than a feature film *wet fart noise*

i might be in the minority here but Lurker was just meh for me. the two leads are really good but the whole fleeting-obsession-meets-desperate-fixation-with-creepy-consequences angle feels so done for me. nothing new and not thrilling enough to grab me with that well-trodden shit.

you know that thing where an actor with natural talent and charisma stretches it way too far? and it becomes cartoonish and repulsive and sorta pathetic? anyway there are two prime examples of that in this movie (plus the worst wig of 2025). Steve Zahn is the only relief.
