i honestly don't think i even have much to say about octopath in comparison because unlike botw, where its problems actually run pretty deep both in an insular sense and in how its influence was iterated going forward, OT is just... overwhelmingly dull. every part of this game is so paper thin

anyways. im not really fully satisfied with octopath and botw as answers but the thing is besides the fact that by habit i simply don't really play new games anymore i also just have a pretty good sense now for whether or not i'll enjoy something and only engage with things i know i'll like

oomf already said octopath but it truly is difficult to remember the last time i was so thoroughly disappointed by a game that had a ton of hype around it both before and after release. that game has all the depth, appeal and personality of glittery cardboard

this one is kinda funny bc a lot of the games like this i have always loved have ended up being vindicated by time. pokemon black & white and sonic riders immediately come to mind. i also still love zero gravity even tho a lot of people seem to have turned on that game as riders 1 gained favor
