Instead of the warming centres, 4 shelters expanded their capacity until Mon morning. These shelters are three 902 man up locations & beacon house. It is some relief for some, but there is also a deep violence in this choice. Substance users are not welcome in these shelters and are often banned.

Who can plan? And in what ways? People should know that the city of Halifax
@hfxgov.bsky.social
did not open any warming centres this weekend. We are getting arctic winds, and an incoming snowstorm. It's cold enough out there to kill people experiencing homelessness. 1/4

Carney is no hero, this is a polite tantrum about not being at the grown up table of colonialism. The man cut any real funding that supports justice or semblance of a safety net. Increased border, military and carceral spending, & continues to transgress against Indigenous sovereignty & rights.

Since so many people are fangirling over Carney's supposed "historic" speech in Davos, I want to offer an alternative reading. This is not left cynicism, but a sober reading of imperial positioning in this moment. 1) Carney squarely positioned Canada as a middle power.

I don't think BoPc ever listens to public consultations but the community members are my favourite thing to listen to every year (excluding anyone associated with alderney landing)

We didn't vote for PC politicians to override municipal decisions on transport - and even require the removal of approved infrastructure, at our cost. Email to Public Works Minister and Premier on their municipal transportation power-grab, feel free to adapt and send

laughable that Tim Houston and Fred Tilley, who don't take the bus and live nowhere nearby think they are best placed to make decisions about transport here. Off-the-scale egotistical and presumptuous behaviour that will favour their big business pals, not the public

What’s with Andy? Frustrated Fillmore turns to Facebook after losing Windsor Exchange vote
It’s a worrying sign that instead of listening to his councillors, Halifax's new mayor seemingly wants to turn the pressure up on them.

Maclean caught offguard and having a hard time answering questions, maybe because BoPC did not ask any valid questions in during their 'oversight' 🤔

Both of andy's seats (MP and mayor) are empty right now. Have we considered that he is putting on a performance art piece on how elected officials are unnecessary?

And coubcillor Janet Steele, why is the first time we hear the question of "how we can reach you for community safety input?" being asked to a BUSINESS OWNER and not the wealth of data being provided by the community members here who have clear expertise in what safety actually looks like.

A speaker just asked why there's an on-duty police officer at city hall. It's due to the increase threat of political violence. However, this is not a regular on-duty police officer. This is an extra-duty police officer. Council is paying a premium for that police officer.
