very cool colour artefacts from the free CRT TV not properly decoding composite video from my NES. this happens roughly once every three times I power on the console. If I want to get rid of (or cause) the effect, I simply have to hit reset on the NES once or twice.

got a free CRT TV today! NEC 19” from the 90s, composite and RF inputs only.

finally got around to playing Portal for the first time yesterday :3 800x600 on a CRT monitor, of course.

very janky setup to test the picture tube from my 1987 CNC machine CRT monitor. The pinout on the CRT is identical to the one in my monochrome green monitor, so it was as simple as swapping the yoke over and plugging everything in. yes, i am using a multimeter probe and rubber bands to ground it :3

RF-only 80s CRT TVs are the best kind of CRT TVs. PVMs and the like have no soul to the image, they’re too perfect (though I wouldn’t say no to a free one! a CRT is a CRT, after all…) PC CRT monitors are great too though, I like them just as much as a shitty TV :3
