15 years ago, when I was still working in film development, I read two great screenplays by this new, rising screenwriter named Oren Uziel. He’s now a showrunner, writer, and producer on the Prime Video series SPIDER-NOIR.

I closed out this year’s American Cinematheque Bleak Week at the Aero Theatre with a screening of the 160-minute “Cannes Cut” of SOUTHLAND TALES, followed by a Q&A of writer-director Richard Kelly, moderated by Mark Olsen.

Today’s the final day of the American Cinematheque’s Bleak Week, so I began the day at the Egyptian Theatre with a screening of the 4K restoration of the incredibly grim British TV movie THREADS, with an introduction and Q&A with director Mick Jackson (L.A. STORY, THE BODYGUARD, VOLCANO).

My latest LEGO build is the first official Peanuts LEGO set, depicting Snoopy and Woodstock on top of Snoopy’s doghouse. This 964-piece set actually converts easily into a scene depicting Snoopy and Woodstock roasting marshmallows over a campfire under the stars.

This may be the most adorable LEGO build, yet, a 1,234-piece set of a floating sea otter with its pup.

My latest LEGO build is this a 791-piece set of Robert Indiana’s LOVE sculpture. Last week, The Huntington museum and library in San Marino (near Pasadena) announced that they have acquired 1 of the 5 original 12-foot monumental versions of this sculpture and will have it on display later this year.

First time seeing a Werner Herzog film in IMAX 3D! (I did see an American Cinematheque screening of this in 3D a few years ago with a Q&A with Herzog).

My second Q&A screening of the day was the Academy Museum’s screening of MICKEY 17, followed by a Q&A with writer-director Bong Joon Ho and producer Dooho Choi. The Q&A opened with a sobering observation about just how dystopian the film is compared to the real world.

Saw the delightful film THE CHRISTOPHERS for a second time today, this time with a Q&A with director Steven Soderbergh and writer Ed Solomon (MEN IN BLACK, creator of BILL & TED), moderated by Tim Grierson.

My second Q&A screening of the day was the Japanese horror video game adaptation EXIT 8 at the AMC Century City, which was followed by a Q&A with director Genki Kawamura, moderated by film critic Carlos Aguilar.

At the Egyptian Theatre for an American Cinematheque screening of Robert Altman’s THE LONG GOODBYE, followed by a Q&A with star Elliott Gould, as part of the annual Noir City film noir festival.

The best part of returning home from a vacation is seeing Patches’ reaction when we pick her up from dog boarding.

Checking out the springtime display at the Conservatory at the Bellagio. Tomorrow, the city of Las Vegas is having a parade for Bruno Mars and renaming a street after him, so there was a flower artwork honoring him at the Conservatory.

We just arrived in Las Vegas, but this morning Patches was panicking and trying to keep us from leaving.
