I think it's kind of even worse ... they think that art is simply a matter of "expressing good ideas" (and that they have great ideas that unfairly go unexpressed). They don't seem to understand that "good ideas" emerge as the consequences of the challenges of creation, that's where art happens.

I have been having SO many thoughts about the pervasiveness of this lately. People approaching things backwards. Thinking an audience is the goal, rather than a by-product of creating something people like. They want a packed restaurant & glowing reviews but they have zero interest in cooking.

Even those dipshits 'coaches' who are all over instagram, talking to the camera about 'building', 'scaling' and 'passive income' are all part of the same problem. They'd rather role-play as someone 'successful' rather than actually doing anything of actual worth.

The point of drawing is drawing. The point of painting is painting. The point of writing is writing. And so on & so on. Everything else about the pursuit of an art or craft can be taken away and is out of your control. The doing and the rewards of doing remain for as long as your faculties remain.
