Aaaah, Tuesday. Yesterday I grasped for the first time, how powerful Clip Studio can be in combining scripting with panel layout and dialogue bubble placement. Some stuff ist frustrating, but it kinda works. And thats kinda cool. Helps to break down the old wall between writing and drawing comics!

Aaah! Monday morning. That jolly panicked feeling when starting work on a new comic and trying to blend the feelings of bliss and terror. *Holds up puny pencil while the angel of creative endeavours races its flaming sword down on you*

Maulwurfshügel. So viele! Der ganze Kurpark in Lüneburg ist voller Maulwurfshügel. Und wie ich da so langspaziere, frage ich mich, warum ich noch nie gesehen habe, wie ein Maulwurf einen Hügel baut. Und wie viele Maulwürfe es überhaupt braucht, um so viel Aushub zu produzieren. So viele Fragen!

Diesen November mache ich beim NANOWRIMO ✏️ 📙 mit und habe mir fest vorgenommen, dass der Spaß beim Schreiben oberstes Gebot ist. Ich denke, der einzige Weg sinnvoll viel zu schreiben ist, die mentale Reibung beim ersten Entwurf zu gering wie möglich zu halten. Aktueller Stand 4000 Wörter. 🫡

Honestly: I love tools to draw, tools that make life easier, tools that enhance our abilities. But watching people posting AI generated art is like watching people eating wax apples. It is best not engage, philsophically.

Over on twitter, my editor Shailja Patel reminded people of my essay Fire to the Grass, about how radical unforgiveness is a useful concept to apply to the news about Alice Munro abetting her husband's sexual abuse of her daughter. This labour is also being done by those talking about Neil Gaiman.

Some files go into the cloud and others, well... get stuck in between, wandering the void forever.

It’s hard to tolerate authors using AI art on their books when they surely wouldn‘t want artists to just illustrate AI stories „because it’s easier than collaborating with any given artist“. „I can’t afford real art…“ Maybe you just did not try hard enough, buddy.

Reading "Something Wicked This Way Comes" by Ray Bradbury hits VERY different when you are over forty than back at age 25. What a book!

Oozetober 4/31 Darkwing Duck Ah yes, not even St. Canard was safe from the slime. In an almost laughable accident Darkwing Duck submerged himself in the toxic ooze. Two nights later a mutated, violent version of Darkwing was first sighted!!

Oozetober 3/31 Brooklyn from Gargoyles After unrelenting weeks of rain spilling and spreading toxic ooze all around New York City, even the mighty gargoyles awaken into a rage of mutation and bloodlust! Beware the fallen defenders of the night!

Oozetober 2/31 Son Goku from Dragonball Son Goku thought he and his besties were safe until the next full moon, but after coming in contact with the green slime known as ooze, Goku's monkey genes fully mutated him into a frenzied killer. Look out!

Oozetober 1/31 The Pink Panther The Inspector finally caught up with the legendary Pink Panther, but little did he know that the rare creature had recently mutated into a hellish, fanged nightmare! Where is Sergeant Deux-Deux when you need him?!

Hey peeps! Starting from October 1, I'll drop 31 Inktober illustrations, one each day. My topic of choice are Saturday morning cartoon characters but - wait for it - mutated by the power of ooze! So expect dramatic re-imaginings of your beloved childhood friends!

I think the best response I've seen to AI anything has been, "Why should I bother reading something that nobody could be bothered to write"
