THIS. THIS. THIS. The biggest and most prominent issues with the Mario movie were basic film principles. Those were lost because the film was so focused on it being "A Mario Movie". References in the shots, music adaptions, all that. It focused on that too much, to the point where it wasn't good.

I'm willing to bet this will be way better as an actual movie then the Mario movie was but because it's "generic fantasy" live action and not a 1 to 1 cartoon recreation of the game world full of shallow references to thing you know, y'all will hate it.
