The Promise Story of Progress is a different approach to measuring progress by having real experience at the centre. A clear message across the 10 vision statements from those with care experience is that consistency, clarity, and good communication can make positive differences.

On 5 February 2020, representatives from all parties in the Scottish Parliament promised to transform how Scotland cares, so all children & young people grow up loved, safe, & respected. In the lead up to the 2026 election, it is more important than ever that this cross party commitment continues.

The promise was made 6 years ago today. We have updated the 25 route maps of Plan 24-30 and the information in the Promise Story of Progress, giving the clearest picture so far of what needs to change, where, by when, and how this is being felt in the lives of the care community.

This week marks the sixth anniversary of the promise being made and today MSPs debated some of the proposed changes to the Children (Care, Care Experience and Services Planning) (Scotland) Bill which will make significant legal changes to help keep the promise.

We are pleased to see this Bill pass at Stage 1, moving Scotland closer to becoming a nation that does not restrain its children. We are committed to working with MSPs & the Scottish Government to put in place a statutory framework for restraint across all settings in line with the promise.
