We highlighted, earlier this year, the way police officers had targeted and arrested an independent legal observer wearing a face mask for health reasons, because of cancer treatment. We just heard about a similar incident a few months ago, again involving a legal observer

I could say, with greater justice, that the "certain frisson" you, Will Stancil, experience when frivolously accusing someone — or accusing a legitimate turn of phrase — of antisemitism, a frisson that doesn't attach to simply expressing your disagreement, is anti-Palestinian racism.

This is why they have been astroturfing extremely racist propaganda hate campaigns using the media platforms they bought. It doesn’t occur to them that this is a weird thing to do, because they think it’s what MeToo was, what BLM was. They think they’re under assault by master criminals.

If the left in almost every white people country was now all just obvious cranks demanding prison camps for wrong-thinkers and liquidating the wealthy and seizing their assets, we would probably be hearing a lot about there being something fundamentally wrong and bad about left wing politics.

It’s obvious beyond saying, but if Obama had pretended a golf caddy was a respected historian and used him to claim he was the greatest leader the world had ever seen, it would follow him forever. He would be a laughing stock. For Trump, it’s the footnote to one day’s similarly embarrassing things.

Musk deserves more ire than he's gotten, not less. But there's plenty to go around, and much of it should be directed at the army of sensible, respectable suits who've nodded along while fascists flood the zone with racist bile, eagerly sanitising their talking points for as long as I've been alive.

A fascinating write-up. An aside that jumped out at me: European electricity users face "a few minutes of outages per year" whereas US users face 2-11 _hours_ per year. One of the hidden economic variables that may explain why US quality of life relative to Europe's is overstated by income stats?

Also less than ideal that the former head of the CIA is saying the head of the British intelligence service was never anything less than instantly and totally cooperative, when asked for anything. Unless you think the CIA always have good intentions, of course.

Call me paranoid if you will, but I do think it’s less than ideal, if the country’s most prominent lobby journalists line up one after another to say they were all great friends of the head of the secret intelligence service, myself. I think it should be clear why that’s not so great.
