There hasn't been a ton of Descent 3 material in the Volition collection at The Strong, not surprising given it was developed by sister-company Outrage, but did find Milestone 7 today as I work through some of the tapes.

Good to see they've addressed it, though doubtful these were intended as placeholders. Checking the responses on Twitter, usual weird accounts encouraging the use of AI because I guess they want more shit nonsense art in their games.

Well that's disappointing. I was enjoying the game, but to find out not only is there blatant AI art but it's not even disclosed either isn't great and now I'm not so sure about other art in the game.

The Video Game History Foundation's newly digitized GDC 1989 tapes are rad. Talks with Dani Bunten! Trip Hawkins blasting Nintendo's licensing policies! A *retrospective* panel for gaming in 1980! Absolute gold that this stuff survived and is accessible for everyone now.

In the Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition there are 2 levels in Rayman by his Fans which you can't access. It simply says "Level not available". We didn't really understand why, until today (cont.) #rayman

Unfortunately as of Monday we had confirmation that Sebastian's cancer was not responding to the chemo and has continued to spread. The vet has est. that he's got days left. Obviously we're a bit of an emotional mess at the moment. Thank you so much to all those that donated towards his treatment.

Been bouncing back and forth between Beyond Good & Evil on the PS3 and the new anniversary edition. The game on PS3 retains a lot of the audio effects such a reverb etc., which seem to unfortunately be absent in the new version, which is a big shame.

i've been working on parsing the file groups in the ps3 build of the orange box and found a couple things exclusive to the copy of portal on it - Windows server.dll build from 2 months before the game released on PC - this dark and griddy background art

We were working on a SNES 'Taz' game at Software Creations in about 1993/4 and all that remains of the game are these three Taz sprite frames. That may change if I uncover any other artwork. I believe these were drawn/animated by Andy Wilson ( RIP ). Andy is at the front in the photo.

Implemented some rather simple depth of field yesterday.

It's a little dumb, but I sometimes dislike playing games on PC (esp. recently) because my stupid ass brain will get caught up fiddling with the graphics settings every second trying to aim for a perfect balance between visuals and performance; but I want all the sparkly turned on.

Kinda wondering if I've burnt myself out. Motivation was kinda at a low most of this year already, but yesterday something's just clicked in my head and I'm just sort of, dead inside.

Setting properties was working for scene nodes, but not for entities as they're a special case in the engine. As of today, it now works for entities, and there's now automatic write/read for properties you set up with some basic validation. Apologies for ugly UI, it's pending a rewrite 🙃

Rather interesting that the American McGee's Alice port on console now seems to be available for Madness Returns without requiring a code? It's a pretty interesting port, though seems to perform terribly on the PS3. Curious if it performs any better on 360.

It's now possible to merge brushes in the engine into a single object, export it and then import it into other rooms. You can technically child the brushes to a parent node and export that but it felt a little messy rather than just doing it as one object. #gamedev #gamedevelopment
