Noticed some minor distortion with the perspective in my engine, and it left me feeling motion sick. So that's great... I think I've fixed it now, but it's funny how I didn't notice it for the longest time and as soon as I did, it was awful.

There's a very special game celebrating its 25th birthday today: Ion's Storm's cult classic ANACHRONOX. This is one wild, ambitious game with oodles of heart. One of those games where a western dev wanted to make something like a JRPG. It's pretty much the Fifth Element as an RPG.

I love simple little lens flares like these, and they fit really nicely with the aesthetic. Recently updated them so they look a little better and their appearance is no longer hard-coded; there's a little script where you can set up new types and set lights to use whichever type you want. #gamedev

I was getting ready to work on making the light grid computation multi-threaded and spend a good amount of time working on optimisation, but right now it's finishing up in less than a second with my test environment. I keep forgetting how fast modern computers are. Guess I'll park that work for now.

I'm fairly sure I've played games splitscreen on PS5 before that haven't required both (or even either) accounts to have Plus. To add the Microsoft account requirement on top of that is just crazy. This shouldn't be allowed to be normalised.

Randomly remembered there was a Source 2 reference in the Alien Swarm SDK, heh. I'm fairly sure the Left 4 Dead fork of the engine was internally referred to as Source Hybrid, but I might be misremembering. Regardless, pretty crazy how long they were working on Source 2 for.

Happy Bioshock-Archival Saturday all! This might be interesting to someone, so here's an in-engine shot from 2011 of Liz's 'Smart Terrain' anims that gave her a bit of life. The animations were on the proxy side of things and the in-engine blending doesn't help, so these are a bit stiff. Still fun

Blue Stinger unused content? Couldn't find anything about it. There's a map in the game files that features a nice beach and a partially underwater ruined temple that style-wise doesn't fit with anything else in the game. Map also doesn't have a .bin file like other ones and is duplicated 10 times.

It's been depressing seeing society become ever more prudish over the last couple decades, and with all this censorship it's only going to get worse. At the same time we seem to be ever more comfortable with graphic violence. I find that aspect of it rather disturbing.

Some kids forked one of our old unfinished projects yesterday and immediately assumed we would want to be associated with them. Our site name was featured in their so-called "trailer", also showing work we didn't finish. So that was a fun mess to deal with. Fortunately they've since removed that.

We were watching Discovery last night, and it was quite disturbing just how many times they had to keep doing a flashback to a character getting their neck broken. I hate how unnecessarily graphic it is, but I guess that's modern TV for you. Such a far fall from the grace of TNG.

Gave Hoppers a watch. Enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. Probably one of the better Pixar films I think I've seen in a while.

The other day when I rolled my mouse wheel over the volume slider in Gnome it went to max while I had my headphones on... Which hurt... Tried to reproduce it today and can't, so a little awkward filing a bug report, but guess I've got to be wary of that until I figure out what causes it.
