Steven Maynard, Michel and Mathurin: Finding Foucault in the Archives, Archivaria 100 (Fall/Winter 2025): 44-73 Abstract In this article, we follow Foucault into the archives. Foucault spent much of his working life reading and researching in libraries and archives, and yet he most often figures in the archival literature as the creator of the rarified concept of āthe archive.ā As a counterpoint, this article explores Foucaultās work in archives, his use of archives in his work, and the significance he attached to archival research.

When my parents were denied a tourist visa for a family vacation in Canada, it felt like history repeating itself
I convinced my parents to travel from India to spend time with my family, but even though I have made a home here, it feels like I do not belong

"A university that is not fully free is nothing more than a business of servility. You can't teach under boot heels; you can't speak in the face of the walls of prisons; you can't study when arms threaten." Foucault speaking at a rally of 600 university students, Brazil, October 1975.

Excellent round-up by
@lanrickbennett.bsky.social
of resources on Jackie Shane for
#BlackHistoryMonth
. Jackie's decision in the 1950s to leave a transphobic and racist U.S. behind is really resonating today. Not that things were so much better on this side of the border, but ...
