Lavender Library is a queer book club centered on thoughtful reading, deep conversation, and shared reflection. In February, we’ll be reading Sister Outsider, Audre Lorde’s essential collection of essays on identity, power, anger, silence, difference, and survival.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.” That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

The Autonomy Project will be on break from December 22nd through January 5th. As a volunteer-run organization, rest is part of how we take care of each other. This time off gives our volunteers space to breathe, reconnect, and recharge after a full year of showing up for community.

The Autonomy Project started in a single room, with a handful of queer folks and a dream. Now we’ve hosted hundreds of events, welcomed thousands of people, and built a space where showing up as your full self is the standard, not the exception. Thanks for building it with us.

Juneteenth isn’t just a day on the calendar. It’s a checkpoint in a struggle that never really paused. Freedom didn’t land all at once. Not in 1865, and not now. It came in fragments. With loopholes. With conditions. And for Black queer and trans folks, it’s still showing up in pieces (if at all).
