I spent some time working in a residential home for about 20 Huntingtons patients. Each one had different symptoms and all had horrible stories of their diagnosis and decline. Plus the trauma of knowing that they may have passed the genes to their children. So happy to hear about this.

Early results from a gene therapy trial against Huntington's Disease have been incredible - far better than originally hoped for. This is wonderful news for all families suffering from this devastating, and until now untreatable, autosomal dominant disease. 🧪

I witnessed a family lose their adult son and daughter to this terrible disease. The financial burden was staggering, the emotional toll of watching healthy 30-40 year old children being torn from them in the worst way. This is a miracle. Thank you science.

I see this as a call to action for #scicomm. We’re failing to communicate the basics to a public that is actually interested in science (>80% for new discoveries). We need to be more explicit about the scientific method when we talk about our research.

As someone who has lost a loved one to Huntington’s Disease, I am SO thrilled by this! Also, this novel microRNA helps by targeting mRNA. I guess it’s a good thing their current US trials aren’t funded by the NIH?
