A new paper shows that less than 2 months of exposure to Twitter’s algorithmic feed significantly shifts people’s political views to the right. Moving from chronological feed to the algorithmic feed also increases engagement. This is one of the most concerning papers I’ve read in awhile.

AWI researchers have found evidence suggesting that humans may have influenced fire activity in eastern Siberia more than 5,000 years ago — earlier than previously assumed. 🔥 By analyzing charcoal particles from sediment cores, they were able to reconstruct a 10,000-year history of wildfires.

Another thought on the generative AI debate. As more and more AI slop papers come out, it becomes *more* important to actually read the papers and *more* important to gain domain expertise to spot fakes. An AI generated summary of an AI generated paper isn't going to tell you the paper is fake.
