the surgery has a trial period where they do a small incision with local anesthetic and put the thing in there, but you wear the wires outside your body for two weeks. my surgery consult is on october 10th. they put this in motion for me very quickly and i'm really really really happy.

i had a procedure at the hospital a week ago. they were trying to determine if my urinary incontinence was of neurogenic origin once and for all so i was seeing a bunch of neuro-urologists. the tests were uncomfortable, but they showed what i've been trying to tell my doctors for years:

✨ can confirm!! we’re huge psych nerds, love to explore and learn, but learning DBT before practicing with an actual clinician was *not good for us* and was destabilizing! unfortunately that means i now have trauma around specific treatments that could help me 🙃 be careful with yr brain pls

Yuppp — I get why folks might go the self-directed route (esp if they're dealing with our american healthcare system) but you need that solid foundation with a professional in order for it to be the most effective imo.
