I realized while replaying Sonic Advance 2 that I've beaten all of the mainline Sonic games. (Excluding some alternate dimension ports) Of course, this means it's time for a tier list so I can finally be respectable.

Bonk’s Adventure

Mario Tennis Fever has me thinking again about the holism of game reviews. It's a wonderful sports game that is incredibly fun competitively and casually. It has easily the most to engage a solo player in the series. But the Adventure mode sucks, so this means the reception is middling.

I grabbed Mario Tennis for both N64 and GBC and I think this is a game best played linked. It's such a fun, unique experience. Even now, it's exciting to see your sprite baby turn into a full 3D model. Although, the colors in 3D are weird. Why is Alex Blonde? And why is Kate not pink?

I was playing Castlevania Harmony of Despair and getting bad RNG. I realized that if I played 3 characters with the same controller I could triple my drop chances. It was pretty fun, and it tickled my Dandori senses. This could be a sick speedrun category. @gamesdonequick.com

My overall enjoyment of classic Mega Man went through the roof when I realized you could use the slide to jump further.

People often have readings of Majora's Mask as a story about mortality. I like seeing it as an autobiographical story about the game's 1-year development. It's about a dev team rushing against repeated short deadlines trying to make something worthwhile. (As represented by the three-day cycle)

The dark side of save states: I was on the Ninja Gaiden 2 final boss, determined to beat it start to finish. After many tries, I finally managed to beat phase 2 with 1 health. To my horror, it rolled into phase 3. I restarted the level to get more ammo, and when I got back it skips phase 1 and 2.

Has anybody been talking about how Metroid Prime 4 is close to being a remake of the first? A mysterious energy rains over an abandoned planet and mutates the flora and fauna. The upgrade set is nearly identical. Starts with a bombastic linear action sequence where you lose your upgrades.

I'm kind of addicted to Bomberman 64. The game industry needs another transition to 3D so we can see insane things done with legacy IPs like turning an action game into an experimental 3D collectathon puzzle platformer. Who needs a jump button when you have explosives?

When I was young we were a Nintendo household. We were fiercely loyal from the NES up through the N64. Once Gen 6 came around we and the rest of the world all got a PS2. Around this time, I would hang with friends and see them playing an amazing looking game called Sonic Adventure 2.

I'm playing Shaman King Master of Spirits and I'm enjoying it so much I might reread the manga. It's made by Konami, and it plays like an Aria/Ecclesia love child. It has issues, but it might end up as my second favorite Castlevania on GBA? Harmony is easy to beat but Circle is a tight race.

Game Freak's whack decision to lock the shiny charm behind 1000 battles has made me apply my programming skills to Pokémon. I puzzled for a while, I think the plan is to make a macro which spams A and periodically holds the trigger then go to one of the early cafes. I wonder how long it will take 🤔
