Asgore felt his cheeks heat up when she snuggled into him, smiling as something he hadn't felt in a long time sparked inside. "I could not be happier to see you again as well." He kept his arms tenderly wrapped around her smaller frame.

Albeit startled, the king remained standing. "Oh! Howdy, Gretta! I can see you are in a good mood." He bellowed a hearty laugh as his own arms wrapped around her.

"Ah, good morning Asriel!" A warm smile curved on his lips. "I have prepared some tea if you would like some."

He sipped quietly from a cup of tea.

"Oh dear, it appears I've slept in a little..."

Asgore would simply nod to what Gretta first said, recalling the many struggles they faced as a civilization beneath the surface. He seemed to have forgotten their hands were still holding one another as well, similarly due to how comfortable her touch felt to his own. "Mhm. I would like to -

Asgore's brows raised to her explanation, interested to hear about Gretta's unique breed and background. She'd likely be even more excited to find out she's talking to the king of monsterkind. "Intriguing. I have heard legends of your kind myself, but I never figured I would meet someone of such -

"Then I suppose you've heard my name before, have you not?" Inspecting Gretta to notice her goat-like features despite appearing rather humanly, Asgore was a bit surprised. "Hm... So if you are no monster yourself, but clearly not human... Then what could you be, may I ask?"

"I can tell. It's *sniff* just a habit, son." He was beginning to tear up, using one of his fingers to wipe some away from his eye with a chuckle. "Don't be hard on yourself for being a little soft though. Us Dreemurs are *sob* naturally driven by emotion."

"Of course, young lady. Such effort should always be appreciated, especially when it gives bountiful results." Infectiously, her smile brought one of his own to the king's face. "Might you have a name, miss?"

The king's gaze would stay fixed on his son, analyzing every detail of him as he processed everything. "You would not be incorrect..." As he took a few steps closer, his lips formed a smile of their own. "...but it's still a welcome surprise to see you again, my boy."

"Oh, goodness. I can tell your hard work must pay off." Visibly flustered—

Asgore didn't fully recognize his voice, but something about it sounded familiar... He turned to face him with a smile. "Howdy! May I..." His expression shifted to one of shock as his watering can fell into the flowers. "Do my eyes deceive me... or is it truly you, Asriel?"

Meanwhile, Asgore would focus on preparing some tea. He first filled a kettle with water, and then proceeded put it on the stove next to where Asriel's pot was. After using fire magic to ignite his burner as well, he went to the cupboard to grab a couple of tea cups.

"Ah, Doctor Gaster! It's been a while, has it not?" The king gave an approving nod to the scientist, his lips curved into a warm smile. "Indeed I have, for the most part. How have you been?"

"Funny, I was about to ask something quite similar. I'm sure you already knew that though." His gaze would soften a bit. "I'd love to try your mother's pie recipe again though. I may have a green thumb, but I'm no expert in the kitchen, I can say that much..."

Asgore nodded to show his understanding before taking a moment to look at the picture he was shown. "Klowbi, is it? He looks like a nice fellow, though I reckon he's been through a bit. I would be happy to meet him." His eyes were still misty, too, but his lips parted into a grin.

"I can only imagine..." He wouldn't care if that were to happen, chuckling softly before eventually pulling away to look at him. "Mmh, look how much you've already grown. I'm so proud of you, Asriel."

"I love you too, son..." Asgore walked up to pull him into a firm embrace, his body trembling with emotion as tears rolled down his cheeks. "I'm sorry I couldn't have come home any sooner to see you. I have been far too busy..."
