Got my flu + COVID vaccines today. So glad it is still available where I live. My arm is a little sore and it hurt a little to lift up my arm to do the dishes tonight but that's about it for side effects so far.

I keep thinking about how my medically fragile son and so many other kids like him go to Florida for Make a Wish trips and now they are at even greater risk of getting vaccine preventable diseases during their stay.

I found out that we weren't invited to a big family Labor Day picnic because people are uncomfortable to be around my disabled son. He is a teenager, big and mobile, but like an infant intellectually, so he's a handful. We always wrangle him but I guess it's a distraction. Bummed me out. :-(

Not sure most people really understand what it means to call up someone who is in the National Guard to serve as they are doing in DC but it is very disruptive to their lives and should never be taken lightly.

I have a teenager with multiple disabilities after infantile spasms and epilepsy surgeries. Dental visits are tough. We go to a top dental school's "special needs" clinic, reimbursed through secondary Medicaid. At our appointment this morning I wondered if the clinic would be there in six months.

I attended SUNY and always sensed that I was given priority admission b/c I am from a rural, poor county in upstate NY. First week of freshman year I had conversations with kids from fancy science high schools in NYC who were waitlisted. I got in with no activities or internships, not great SATs.

More than ever, researchers need to explain how they use taxpayer money to provide tangible benefits. I'll start: My lab has developed a completely novel way to make cellular therapies a lot more effective. Our approach shows promising results in pancreatic, ovarian and lung cancer.
