New research by Bianca Haas and Umair Shahid: “Is small really small? Re-characterising tuna fisheries in the Indian Ocean.” The paper shows how unclear definitions of small-scale fisheries in RFMOs create governance gaps, and proposes new a classification to support fairer fisheries management.

🌊 Towards A New Ocean Treaty - BBNJ PrepCom 🌍 Delegates reconvened at UN Headquarters to pave the way for entry into force of the BBNJ Agreement. It was a productive two weeks — with experts from the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security contributing on several delegations.
