I grew up on a family farm and I had to do cruel shit like this— and worse —to conform. The prevailing norms told me it was necessary. It was not. I regret every second of it.

I know this firsthand. I had to do it as a kid on our family farm. It was traumatic for me then. Over time it gave me insights about our cruelty to animals, our domination of the living world. So I wrote this book.
