Did some yard work this afternoon, now sitting back and watching the original gas man. 1960s tokusatsu directed by Ishiro Honda and effects by Eiji Tsuburaya. ✨

Man I'm watching this and the actors are seriously just quacking and there are subtitles at the bottom for the translation! My hands are on my head.

Oh lol, one year anniversary of me watching that Avatar ripoff movie and I still think about it probably once every couple months. The things I do for silly practical effects.

Showa-era tokusatsu villains will always be the best of the bunch and nothing will convince me otherwise.

Sometimes I think about that time last year when I treated myself to a very rare first class flight. But my commuter flight got cancelled and I *barely* made it to my connecting flight later that evening, which resulted in me losing my first class seat. I'm still upset. 💢

Hearing folks on their way to Anthrocon this weekend makes me a little homesick for when I lived in Pittsburgh. Those were fun weekends. Haven't been to AC since 2019, although I'd love the chance to go again someday if my schedule and wallet ever allow. 💔

Well, gang. It was a fun run but I guess I'm done being a gamer. Modern gaming culture was already sort of pushing me toward other interests that sparked me more, but Sony did the work to make sure that door is closed for me entirely.

Tonight's movie: Jigoku 1999 (aka Japanese Hell). A very low budget but wonderfully handcrafted horror. A bit saggy in the middle but worth it to watch a bunch of oni chop up a character based upon a real serial killer.

What I love about watching Showa-era Kamen Rider is that I'm not even remotely phased by the inherent silliness of it any more. This is completely normal to me.

As much as I'd complain or be shocked at rising prices for physical media, VS does it best and makes it feel worth it with just outrageously great quality packaging. 🫪 Also, 80s horror wuxia is the best. 💪
