Combat screen/HUd prototype. Scratched my old combat screen since it was mostly control nodes and I can do more fun stuff with sprites. I really love the "bulky" bottom rested UIs of older RPGs, so I want to emulate that. #indiedev #godot

More UI work for my prototype. I can probably start the actual combat logic after this. Multiple loadouts are working and assigning properly to individual Leafos. Saving or Canceling works and the moveset arrays update/reset accordingly. I am so sick of working on UI tho, lmao. #indiedev #godot

Ok got my basic skill selection UI working. Now I can put a few more finishing touches on it, like the prototype for move loadouts, which should basically just be a scene array stapled to another scene. Then I can finally start on combat prototyping and move/class design..... #indiedev #godot

Random game dev tip: If you have a scrollable menu, have a little bit of an object show toward the edge of the menu so the player naturally is given the idea to scroll I've seen scrollable menus where the items are so neatly ordered that I didn't know there was anything to their side/beneath them

I appreciate that I have peers that I can disagree with. Sometimes it feels like modern on-line discourse requires you to agree with people on basically everything or else you're deemed their enemy. Probably just a result of modern discourse polarization, but still annoying.

My advice to game devs is to not follow posting trends and instead show off weird shit about your game. Everyone loves when you can do weird shit.

First Pokemon i ever caught in GEN III, 'Sen' the Gardevoir! ...no seriously. Ralts was the first Pokemon i caught in Ruby, I didn't know how rare they actually were. Kirlia looked odd, but then my jaw dropped when it evolved into Gardevoir! She almost solo'd the Elite 4 & Troy at the end too. 😂

I'm kinda tired of games with known, wealthy devs releasing in Early Access. EA should be to give yourself some form of income while you continue to work on a game, or to help unexperienced devs improve a product with a lot of feedback. Anything else feels like a pre-emptive cash grab.

Have y'all ever noticed this weird thing some Korean/Chinese MMOs/live service games do where the characters have birthday events? It always struck me as kind of weird. It feels like manufactured connection to get the player to have a parasocial relationship with the char so they buy STUFF

Really tired of games getting released that obviously had either no QA or no competent QA testers. It's almost like mass firing QAs and just having the community be guinea pigs to find bugs on release is a horrible system.

I'm sick of games being designed to be addicting. Make me like your game by having a solid, thorough, well made and loved product. Let me enjoy it for 20-100 hours depending on the genre and then just put it down in peace without any further compulsions.

Honestly the 90s and 00s were the peak of American society. I don't even think it's childhood nostalgia. I think if you sent me back 20 years, I would be having an absolute blast.
