Let's talk book covers. I've been very lucky with my cover artists, and am a stickler for good cover art. It's one of my contractual must-haves--it's gotta be compelling. For CRATER GIRL I designed it myself. I wanted a gee-whiz whimsical tone inside a vast meteoric context. Hopefully it works.

I’m gonna talk a little about my upcoming novel, CRATER GIRL. In over a decade of my being out, I’d never addressed my trans experience in a book. With CRATER GIRL, it’s front and center. The book is also an irreverent noir with horrific elements. Can you tell I had a shit ton of fun with this one?

I love this and totally agree. But for me, being trans was anything but a choice. If I could choose, I would have chosen *not* to be trans. It’s so hard, on relationships, on income, on family. But that wasn’t an option. I *had* to transition, or face deep, deep unhappiness. Regrets? Not even one.

I’m working on my first real fantasy, and while it’s terrific fun, I continually bump up against the economics of such a place. Just how did that castle situated impossibly on the edge of a cliff get built? Who paid for it? Who maintains it? Who feeds the workers that maintain it? So many questions.

This is why I chose to stick close to the woods, even at great cost to my filmmaking career and other opportunities. There is no five day work week in the woods. There are no “talking points” among the trees. There is pure life and pure death, and several lifetimes’ worth of knowledge to learn.
