Short termism - driven by profit now vs worry about the costs later - is destroying everything in politics and business.

games are a good industry for consistent profit (because people love to play games year on year!) and a terrible industry for unlimited exponential growth (like tech investment in the early smartphone days), and the entire industry being funded like the latter is bleeding everything and everyone out

This article does a great job of laying out something I talked about semi-recently on @backpagepod.bsky.social - the traditional model of "premium game experiences" - where you buy a game, play it and beat it - is now only a *small niche* within games both in terms of player count and revenue.

As game developers, the only sign of success that actually matters to us is the fact that we have an extensive TV Tropes page hell yeah brother

As someone who used to care a whole bunch about "nintendo canon" I think the best way to think about Nintendo is that their characters are akin to Muppets; they are funny little hand puppets with clear personalities who can be placed in any situation or story without having to worry about The Lore

Seeing a nasty hacking scam going around that targets game workers - where compromised accounts ask you to test out a game, but it's a keylogger. Exact sort of thing so many indies would ask, but it's a scam - don't download it! (Hope Jupiter and others get their accounts back soon!)
