I haven't felt like posting lately, but I've been oil painting more so far this year than I did in the entire second half of 2025. This stripe horse has been on ice for about 90 days (including a month in the freezer), but I finished it for the lunar new year. I hope your horse year is a good one.

I spent a few hours rolled up in the hotel today to recover and finally try my hand at #Procreate. I'm just default hard round brushing for now. There is much to learn, but some promise to this way of working.

There are many things I could have fixed or done better, but I'm still proud of the results, and proud I was able to finish this jaguar portrait in a single session even if it took 11 hours. It was also fun to have a few people stop in to the stream while I was working. #oilpainting

I think the varnish worked reasonably well. At first, it looked like it was pooling up, so I was more conservative than I had to be. I probably could have used a little bit more to get a more even finish on areas with little to no paint.

Attempting varnish for the first time while it's only 88°. I'm hoping I didn't ruin the cheetah painting because it's irreplaceable, being the first thing I made on a pannel with actual oil painting brushes. The cheetah and the lioness were both done for classes with Jen Gennari, a year apart.

I'm going to try to finish this one before the weekend.
