Saw this post this morning and went straight to the replies. While it’s likely satire, one of the most liked replies said, “open the schools.” That tells me two things 1 Math mistakes aren’t always met with kindness. 2 Many folk outside of schools may not realize the great work happening inside them

Finally took the time to make Mexican rice and told my mom. This woman called me and asked me to tell her how I made it step by step. She blessed my process and asked me to send her a million photos. I love Mexican food and the people who lovingly pass down these 🔥 recipes.

Since its awards season, I want to humbly submit my work for consideration: I survived a 12 hour field trip to St Augustine today.

But now the ultimate finding, as we discovered that there are birds who build their nest using anti-bird spikes!! 🤯 So last year I published a paper describing this behaviour: the ultimate adaption to city life! 🏙️ (shout out to my co-author @schilthuizen.bsky.social! 👋)

My boss shared a message from a district leader who visited our class. I was asked, ‘How do you get students to use academic vocabulary & engage in meaningful discussions?’ Simple: Center students. Set high expectations. When students know their voices matter & feel safe, they rise. Every 👏🏼 Time 👏🏼

I always find it weird when high ups come to observe your room without even saying hello or interacting with you. Seems like humanizing the profession is often an afterthought. 🫠

Them: So you’re going to keep fighting for equal rights and equitable mathematics teaching after another one of those presidencies?!? Me:

Taught and walked around for full 8hrs then went home and had meetings from 5-830. Tell me why I decided today was THE DAY to use my standing desk?!?!

Honored to join the IX Jornadas de Escuelas INNOVADORAS to discuss building a global math community rooted in equity and lead a workshop at UNAE. Presenting in Spanish was intimidating at first, but soon felt like coming home. Grateful to Mathkind and the wonderful folx at UNAE for this experience!

Yesterday I got to meet math Ed professors at UNAE and talked about culturally relevant mathematics. Profe Marco showed me the manipulatives he developed for place value that are also rooted in Ecuadorian folklores. This is such an amazing experience!

I am so excited to be at the Jornadas de escuelas innovadoras in UNAE. Mathematics innovation is a global goal and I am so fortunate to connect with leaders in Ecuador who have mathematics equity in focus.

Experiencing our first power outage but thankfully, we were received by the sweetest folx and made to feel right at home!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
