Leftovers are creative prompts, not compromises—recently I had too many bell peppers, so I roasted them. Made romesco, had too much of that. Tonight, it became romesco pasta, with tuna, capers, lemon zest, breadcrumbs. A dish I never would’ve thought up otherwise.

Our vet is in what used to be an office-supply company, and they kept this lovely old sign. I love this, and I urge everyone to adopt this attitude when possible! It beats a blank wall or corny pictures—beautiful old things can become decor, history, a conversation piece.
