Just finished reading Strange Buildings by Uketsu (I actually started it after dinner and maybe finished in about 4 hours). Definitely weird and unsettling with a dash of architecture. I am definitely a fan of how the story was structured...

Apparently there are people who hate Mongolian stamps??? It's so rare to get mail from Mongolia, so shouldn't they be happy that got something from such a remote place? (I would be excited to get mail from Mongolia regardless of what the stamp looks like.)

Ugh. Right about I was to get on the BART, this older Asian lady just barged in front of me. There were still plenty of seats and the train just arrived so it wasn’t because she was late. I really don’t like the impoliteness of the older generation.

The second new bookstore I visited was in Chinatown, specializing in Asian American authors.

Went to check out a new bookstore that I had not been to before. It calls itself “The Best Bookstore” but I didn’t find any books I was looking for there (one mentioned recently by the NYT and the other a Pulitzer winner).

I just got a postcard which seems normal at first glance, but then I realize there's a German stamp with Queen Elizabeth II on it. Seriously, why? I get that the British royal family has German ancestry, but so does 15% of Americans and you don't find them on German stamps.

Cute ladybug stamps from Belgium that were apparently issued a couple days ago. I rarely get postcards from Belgium and mostly I only get the boring stamps, so I doubt I'll ever see any of these in person.

Ahahahahahahahahahaha! Oh geez, I'm laughing so maniacally because I finally managed to confirm a hotel reservation for an upcoming vacation. It was probably the most difficult attempt I've had as pretty much everything in that area has been booked up for some reason.

Ugh. Trying to plan a vacation in a place with limited accommodations is a pain. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll get a positive response in the next day or two. Otherwise I'll have to try to get creative. I probably should have tried booking this last year. But I can't plan *that* far ahead.

Ugh. I don't like it when the weather folks talk about a place having rain as being "juicy". This doesn't sound right. To be honest, I think "juicy" is worse than "moist". Because "juicy" is not an adjective you should use on locations!

I'm seeing discussion on here about getting into college and yeah, if I had to do it now, I'm not sure I would be able to keep up with the competition. When I applied back then, I was pretty clueless and my test prep primarily consisted of flipping through a prep book the day before the test.

Whoa. That was a really trippy 90s Cantonese food show that I just watched. It's basically these immortals from Chinese folklore going to Hong Kong to try to find the best foods but it's total slapstick comedy.

I recently received a postcard with a pretty wacky story. Apparently there's a really old oak tree in the sender's hometown that was basically used as a medieval version of Tinder--people would put letters there and I guess choose the person with the letter they liked.

At the Chiharu Shiota exhibit at the Asian Art Museum. This piece is called Diary, consisting of red thread interspersed with diary pages written in Japanese or German (since the artist is Japanese now living in Germany).

Since I happened to be in the area, I finally got a quick looksee at the new H Mart that opened last week! H Mart is a Korean grocery store if you haven't seen one before. It was still pretty crowded late in the evening and it was blaring K-pop on the speakers. I discovered durian coffee.

Just had to share...my postcard friends have been writing to the USPS to get Postcrossing stamps for years now and they announced today that they're finally getting some this May! This is like only the third time the USPS has ever issued triangle stamps. www.postcrossing.com/blog/2026/03...

New magazines have arrived!

Ok, I'm finally back from the Stationery Festival and while it was great to see all the cool stationery and meet up with my postcard friends, that place was way too packed. I felt like a sardine most of the time. I wish the organizers got a bigger location.

Seriously, what is up with this guy closing the elevator doors before one of my coworkers could get on. A couple extra seconds of waiting to get up to your floor (which happened to be the 2nd floor only!!!) won’t kill you.

Whenever people announce something’s happening on April 1, I’m immediately suspicious that it’s all an elaborate prank.

I view this as gatekeeping and control over what is acceptable to read. It’s not as dire as book banning, but they’re trying to use shame (instead of the law) to prevent you from reading something.

so funny when people get all upset about genres that other people DARE to enjoy. these big think pieces about ROMANTASY or COZY HORROR or DARK ACADEMIA and how dang upset they make the writer of the article. bud who cares what other people like youll be fine. let people read their books oh my god

I was watching this follow-up video to a transport challenge video where they had to explain to the commenters frothing at the mouth that "true" Londoners would never take the wrong train on the metro that yes, it does sometimes happen when people are tired and stressed...

Some lady tried to cross some tram tracks with her rental bike and totally crashed in the middle of a busy intersection. If you’re a tourist cyclist, don’t assume the SF roads are easy peasy.

Also at an ikebana exhibition. One lady was trying to do a demonstration, but her sensei was sitting up front giving her “advice” which was not doing any favors for her composure.

Went to the new Monet exhibit which just opened yesterday. I think this is my favorite work (The Break-up of the Ice, 1880)—unfortunately no postcards of this one in the gift shop, though.
