I wrote a wee blog about the Rights Respecting Reads challenge that I developed in my school. It challenges our school community to read brilliant books that promote empathy and put different UNCRC articles in context.

āReading for pleasure is a critical skill for all of us, & is vital for children & young people. Building a daily reading habit has so many benefits beyond the obvious improvements in literacy, with benefits such as fostering feelings of ease, happiness & confidenceā¦"

This is so disappointing to read. But itās also been evident this year when browsing the shelves in bookshops. Come on publishers! Inclusion and diversity cannot be trends - they are permanent principles! Books are for everyone.

As the UK School Librarians starter pack has grown, I thought I would repost. For those with school library experience working in the UK. Let me know if you have school library connections and would like to be added

Extremely grim to see a major publisher do this, though not really surprising given who owns them

Have to say though, I met far too many librarians and teachers at YALC today who are having to fight for LGBTQ+ books in their schools. Thatās here, in the UK. Iām glad theyāre fighting, but they shouldnāt have to. š
