So actually The War Between Land and Sea pulled off a very acceptable finale. I was worried at first but they managed it.

The War Between The Land and the sea has done that annoying thing where to make up for the fact they've ran out of the time we've skipped a big chunk of time and in a very short space of time we're having to accept a whole lot of vague stuff.

I think we use "tropes" too much as a negative term. Tropes can of course be annoying when they feel like cheap/lazy moves or repeat too much, but you're not successfully establishing a projects themes and genres if a sufficient amount of relevant tropes aren't deployed.

A big plus point for The War between the Land and the Sea is that it's not a wonky clone of Torchwood and it's not in the shadow of Doctor Who like a poor cousin. It succeeds in being its own thing and while some bits are arguably predictable, and couple of Who/RTD tropes pop up it mostly surprises.

I don't dislike The War Between the Land and the Sea but I'm not sure it exploited the premise correctly. I've had a few moments of feeling invested & intrigued but not enough. I doubt the finale tonight will remedy this, but I hope for a conclusion that ties it up in way that justifies the choices.

I played & completed Portal 1+2 for the first time like only 3 weeks ago & I've had to play the 2nd game again. Perfection. I was seriously late to the party but given there's no 3rd yet I suppose I've saved myself from 15 years of painful wait! GlaDOS is the best villain of any game show or movie.

Sapphire and Steel probably has the best final episode of any cancelled show. It was never meant to be a finale, but it ends the shows in a pretty unique way...The good guys lose. They are tricked and trapped for eternity in a prison lost in nowhere. An accidentally fitting end for a spooky show.

I desperately want a Sapphire and Steel reboot. The original has not aged brilliantly and it could be accused of being all bread and no meat, but these things to improve upon mean a reboot has a lot of potential. It's also not bound by beloved faultless original. This is a fixer-upper.

If I had to give RTD's 2nd era of Doctor Who a one word review it would be "rushed." My overwhelming memory of those 2 series is of there being too many world-building, character development, and unique to Who scenes that were glazed over like they were not worth spending time on.

People embraced David Tennant as Doctor Who despite rabid mass initial rejection because he was an excellent actor making all the right choices. Jodie and Ncuti made some bad choices which to be fair they probably had no control over. Their development process was not given the TLC it needed.

I can easily boycott Fortnite because it became rubbish quite some time ago. The new map is not at all fun.

IMO People are down on Doctor Who because it is failing to evolve. Making him a woman or black or gay is not an evolution. An evolution is changing the entire dynamic which forces you the change the stories you can tell. Strand him on earth again, in the Pre-UNIT era. Have stories with no aliens

I'm not an RTD hater but if I have one general criticism of his second run it is that he speeds through scenes that more should be made of. If I have two, it's nothing burgers. Stop with the Nothing Burgers. Don't bring back Omega when you've no idea what to do with him.

I don't want to dump on The new Doctor Who spin-off but it so far feels like it's got 2 left feet. It is a good idea, there's lots of good elements, the cast is perfectly fine, the score and visuals are spot on, but the writing is failing to capitalise on the good stuff and hit the right beats.

Episode 3 of The War Between the Land and the Sea was a bit naff. I didn't need more than 5 minutes in that submersible and yet it was like 1/2 the episode. It felt longer. It picked up a bit with a shocking end, although not that shocking because that is an RTD trope at this point. 6/10
