The far right has sufficiently destablized the idea of democracy to the point where if Alberta does have a referndum, the results won't actually matter and the province will eventually become disputed land sitting on a LOT of oil. This isn't going to be a safe place to be much longer.

I feel like this has been a year of becoming acutely aware that my brain is not a standard model and is running the wrong software. I miss social cues. I say inappropriate things without intending. I make people around me uncomfortable.

Removed Facebook from my phone because I realized I was just doom scrolling through a sea of ads and AI and it was not great for my mental health. Haven't left entirely yet, we'll see.

Told my landlord about a serious drainage issue and offered to help him find a good landscaper (I used to be a pro). Came home to find that he'd overspent on a company that had no idea what they were doing and they ruined my little sanctuary spot. My own little garden, first one in 20 years. 😭

A few years ago I experimented with AI as a tool for making music. I had it create a few loops, suggest some chord progressions, write some lyrics. I didn't hide what I was doing, I made it the theme of that album. 90% of the work was my own. Since then I've learned more about AI and I regret it.

I wrote a short story for a podcast that was well-received and often on top 100 lists. Folks regularly ask 'what was that story about that guy...' because apparently it lives rent free in their heads like an itch they need to scratch. I have moments where I panic that it was my peak as a writer.
