Hard not to feel old when things I owned are in literal museum displays. I played the original on a Mac classic after school while my Mum was in staff meetings. I honestly believe that it is at least partially the reason I ended up where I am today - but that's a long story.

In one week I'm off to far north Queensland. It has become an annual family tradition and one of the only holidays I genuinely relax. Unfortunately I still have a to do list that's getting longer and the time remaining to do it keeps getting shorter.

Lol - I'm deleting so many emails that I crashed outlook

The (literally) overwhelming number of emails from my kids' school has also thrown into sharp relief the stress that is induced by my work email inbox. I'm going to try inbox-zero again by way of email bankruptcy. Wish me luck - and I apologise for anyone caught in the abyss.

There have been less than 145 school days so far this year, and I've received 163 emails from school. This is simply too much information - I can not keep up.

Look, LLMs can definitely speed up a lot of my work, but let's not pretend they "know" anything. I asked two networks to explain the same thing:

I did something on the HPC yesterday that seemed to crash everything and caused our research computing team to reboot all our login nodes. But today I did something on the HPC that potentially saves thousands of dollars of proprietary software. So, you know, swings and roundabouts.
