Turn your mind back to 1992 and imagine the impact a concept car called the Ford Focus had on the design industry. It was the beginning of the "biomorphism" era of car and product design and this car, designed by Taru Lahti, was insanely weird, cool, and interesting to me as a young design student.

The first rule of car design is never to "rethinks", but to create something new.

Re the Ferrari Luce controversy, my objection is stylistic: the car embodies a design language foreign to the Ferrari brand. Pic: by contrast electric Porsches share the same design language as petrol Porsches. Ferrari could have done the same with the Luce & IMHO not doing so was a brand blunder.
