(2/2) This video shows how even a slightly incorrect AY clock can affect #ZXSpectrum AY-3-8910 tunes. This tune from Toxic Elephant demo first plays with a 1.75MHz clock to the AY, then the correct 1.7734MHz from the ZXTT. With the wrong clock the pitch of notes is lower and envelope effects warble.

Bad typo there Crash! The soundchip is the AY-3-8912 not ...21! Still a very popular soundchip in the #retrocomputing scene. I made a clock module for the AY to drive it at the exact same frequency as the 128K machines so playback of #ZXSpectrum music is pitch perfect! ZXTT -> 2014.samcoupe.com

writing a two player Pac-Man game to use the inbuilt networking years ago. For a MUD it'll be relatively simple as just need terminal style code on the other SAMs for the other players, with one SAM doing all the processing.

I've never bothered much with single player adventures but was hooked on MUD at university in early 90s! Need to code a simple MUD to run on 2 or more networked SAM Coupes for retro shows / museums.

SAMCo's idea of publishing ZX Spectrum software to then encourage programmers to swap to SAM Coupe programming... I've occasionally thought of the reverse. Wasn't happy with the 'In A Can 2' text for the front, it had been quickly knocked up in my PCB software but just looked out of place. New PCB design made to replace it on the front of the 'SAM in a CAN 2' cases, now using the SAM font. Perfection! #samcoupe #retrocomputing #computing

3 games for the SAM Coupe reviewed in this SU. Mind Games - pack of 4 BASIC games that should never have been put out for £15! Defenders of the Earth, looks great but lacks playability. Sphera, one I rather enjoyed! Space shooter using MODE 2 for the scrolling levels, MODE 4 for end of level bosses.

A port of 'Splat!' was released for the SAM Coupe at the end of 1991. Expanded with extra landscapes and a stonking soundtrack. Fun, but challenging.

VERIFY... Used *every* time I SAVEd something when I was using a #ZXSpectrum with cassettes from 1983-1993, but when I moved to the #SAMCoupe in 1993 and used disks I've never used VERIFY to check it SAVEd okay! 33 Years I've now been developing for the SAM Coupe. www.samcoupe.com

The keyboard also changed between this mockup and final machine. The 5 near-final prototypes of the SAM Coupe just used blank 1x1 keycaps + paper inserts. In 2021 I released a 'Prototype Tribute' mechanical keyboard in that style. I've some still available to give your SAM a unique look! #samcoupe
