Weapons in Blood in the Gutter all use basic templates that let you then flavor how the gun looks to best suit your tastes and the setting you play in. Want a revolver, a laser pistol, or magic blasts from your hands? All three can use the same template! ⭐️

Blood in the Gutter is a system that caters perfectly for noir inspired games, which is perfect if you're like me and grew up on Dashiell Hammett books. I'm currently making a small adventure with this system based in the Parasite Eve series, to give you an idea of how setting-agnostic it is!

In Blood in the Gutter, you have 6 "Abilities," each of which governs 5 unique "Skills." Whenever you make a skill check, you get to at least add the corresponding Ability's score to the number, meaning that you always have a chance to succeed! ⭐️

I'm thinking I'll actually release Blood in the Gutter before the holidays. This was a labor of love, and I'm super proud of it. Here's the character sheet I designed for it! ⭐️

If your players are just steamrolling every encounter, you definitely need to make combat more than just "defeat the enemy." Have them protect an NPC from waves of enemies, steal something without being seen, escape a dangerous threat while fighting minions, complete a ritual under fire, etc. ⭐️

If @boguscheesecake.bsky.social taught me anything, it's that every RPG can and absolutely should have a fishing mini-game or subsystem. ⭐️

I find that informing people that the flintlock predates the rapier, and that the hand cannon beats them both by like 200 years, it tends to throw them off balance a little bit. And yes. Any world with magic would definitely have a parallel or an equivalent. Zero question.

If there is no room for humor in your games, I cannot sit at your table. At the same measure, if the tone is so devoid of substance that real emotional depth won't be broached, I cannot join you either. I want to laugh AND cry. Otherwise, I'd rather not play at all. ⭐️

Honestly, I was more annoyed with them nerfing Dalamar than them under-utilizing Soth, tbh. This module was pretty good overall. ⭐️

I like this anthology a lot, but damn, some more variation would be really nice. It's pirates, lizardfolk, and sahuagin. And that's it. ⭐️
