Law aimed at tackling harassment will criminalise protests outside homes of MPs in England and Wales amid rise in complaints Activists could be jailed for up to six months for protesting outside MPsâ homes in England and Wales under a new law aimed at tackling harassment of politicians after a surge of intimidation complaints. The law would criminalise protests outside the homes of MPs, peers and councillors as well as others who have stood for public office â and is likely to draw further criticism that the government is squeezing the right to protest. âBeyond ironicâ: Reform-led council says flags must come down so Christmas lights can go up
Kent county council says union flags and flags of St George must come off street lights because of safety concerns A Reform-led council has ruled that union and St Georgeâs flags must come down in order for a villageâs traditional Christmas lights to go ahead, in a decision described as âbeyond ironicâ. Harrietsham parish council was told by Kent county council â whose leader once vowed not to remove flags put up âunilaterally by the people of Kentâ â that flags must come down from street lights before festive lights go up because of safety concerns. Boris Johnson under pressure to explain how private office follows funding rules
Office is part-funded by public duty costs allowance, which should only be used to support public work of former PMs Boris Johnson is under mounting pressure to explain how his private office complies with rules over taxpayer subsidies after further revelations about how his staff appear to be overseeing his global commercial operations. A leak of data from the Office of Boris Johnson appears to show all three of his staff helping Johnsonâs business and profit-making ventures. Secretly lobbied the UAE for a billion-dollar private venture in a potential breach of ethics rules. His work as a âprincipal adviserâ for Bia Advisory, a âclimate finance solutionsâ firm seeking backing from Abu Dhabiâs $300bn investment fund, involved courting a top Emirati official Johnson hosted in No 10 when he was prime minister. Approached Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X, on behalf of Evgeny Lebedev. The Evening Standard owner, whom Johnson made a peer, was seeking a business relationship between his newspaper and Musk, who bankrolled Donald Trumpâs ascent to the White House. Secured contracts with a combined total of more than ÂŁ850,000 in separate deals with GB News and Associated Newspapers, the owner of the Daily Mail. GB News suggested some of the information was incorrect but confirmed an ongoing arrangement with Johnson. Earned more than ÂŁ5m from less than two years of paid speeches, for some of which he charged $350,000 (ÂŁ259,000). The 34 speeches include a conference leadership in Delhi, a blockchain symposium in Singapore and a bizarre turn as the headline act at the 50th birthday party of a German pharmaceuticals company boss. 59-year-old from Great Harwood bailed after âfirst of manyâ expected arrests for alleged malicious communications A man has been arrested in Lancashire after racist and abusive messages were sent online to the England defender Jess Carter during the womenâs Euros in July. I asked Lord Dannatt 3x whether he had lobbied on behalf of Blue Gold, a Ghanaian gold mining firm in which he held shares. He didn't answer. Eventually, only after the ICO forced them to comply with an FOI request, the foreign office revealed that he had.
